Small Pixels conquers Silicon Valley: Italian innovation towards the global market

SmallPixelsInnovitSmall Pixels is a young Italian company, founded as a spin-off from the University of Florence, and 2025 marks a year of growth and expansion towards new horizons.

As part of its commercial and territorial expansion strategy, Marco Bertini, Chief Research Officer and co-founder of Small Pixels, took part in an Innovit programme in Silicon Valley, designed to support Italian companies in entering the US market.

The Italian Innovation and Culture Hub in San Francisco, which promotes Italian technological innovation, has provided Small Pixels with the opportunity to strengthen its connections with the Silicon Valley ecosystem.

Its main goal is to enhance collaboration between the Italian and US innovation ecosystems, fostering partnerships, investments, and growth opportunities for Italian companies, start-ups, and professionals.

Small Pixels for an uncompromising vision

Small Pixels states that its project was developed with the goal of transforming academic research into practical tools to solve real-world issues related to video distribution and quality on a global scale.

It employs pre-trained neural network models to automatically detect and correct video defects in real-time.

The ultimate objective is to enhance the viewing experience, ensuring higher quality and accessibility for all, regardless of available resources.

Following this direction, Small Pixels continues to work on breaking technological barriers and redefining industry standards.

Technology and video quality for the US market

According to Small Pixels, Innovit represents a strategic gateway, as the company is keen to expand overseas. Its technology portfolio aligns well with the dynamics of the US market, ensuring relevance and appeal.

Technology and innovation are key elements of Small Pixels’ offering, and as anticipated, these solutions have attracted interest across multiple strategic sectors: in broadcasting, assisting broadcasters in delivering superior video quality while optimising transmissions and significantly reducing bandwidth consumption.

This technology applies across various sectors, including:

• Broadcasting: supporting broadcasters in delivering higher video quality and optimised transmissions.

• Gaming: real-time graphics optimisation.

• Video conferencing and surveillance.

• Aerospace and defence applications.

• Drone footage, action cameras, and live sports coverage.

Small Pixels is also developing new applications for mobile devices and expanding strategic partnerships to integrate its technology into future smart TV models, aiming to optimise video distribution even in emerging markets.

New prospects for the global video market

The strategic public session organised by Innovit in San Francisco allowed Small Pixels to present itself to a selected audience of investors, potential partners, and local clients.

The company overview outlined business models and target markets, with a focus on investors.

Among the two solutions presented, the bandwidth-saving technology for video transmission attracted the most interest, given the growing importance of streaming and content delivery in multi-platform distribution.

Small Pixels explains that its proprietary neural network technology offers a dual application, enabling the commercialisation of two distinct software-licensed solutions.

One option, preferred by broadcasters seeking direct control, involves on-premises installation, with internal servers handling all video processing.

The second option is cloud-based, with video processing carried out on remote servers, typically hosted on AWS, ensuring availability where needed.

Through this initiative, Small Pixels has strengthened its strategic network, establishing connections with potential investors, partners, and clients.

The experience marks another step towards integrating the company into the US tech ecosystem, laying a solid foundation for collaborations with local entities and projects aimed at entering the US market.
