Reaffirms Commitment to JPEG2000 Compression Standard
LOUISVILLE, Colo. -- March 30, 2010 -- Front Porch Digital today announced it is reaffirming its commitment to the JPEG2000 compression standard by introducing new features for its free J2K software player at the 2010 NAB Show. In addition, Front Porch Digital, a charter member of the JPEG2000 Alliance, will help answer questions and provide information at the 2010 NAB Show in the JPEG2000 Alliance booth (N6720).
JPEG2000 is a license-free, open-standard compression standard whose benefits include consistent quality through generations, support for 4K and higher resolution, and precise, adjustable bit rate control. The JPEG2000 Alliance was formed to support development and adoption of the compression standard for the benefit of the media industry.
Front Porch Digital's free J2K software player performs PC-based playback of MXF OP1a-wrapped JPEG2000 content and now supports a fully internationalized user interface.
"The JPEG2000 codec's wavelet-based, mathematically lossless compression is both the best and the most cost-effective solution for ensuring video quality, which is why Front Porch Digital relies on it in its own solutions," said Brian Campanotti, Front Porch Digital chief technology officer. "Ultimately, industry-wide adoption will have significant benefits for providers like us, for our customers, and for every media consumer."
