Forte presenza IABM ad IBC 2010

The International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers (IABM) maintained a high profile at one of the industry's biggest shows, IBC2010 in Amsterdam, earlier this month. Some 215 member companies attended the conference, a significant increase over last year's total. The IABM also launched its annual Industry Guide at IBC2010, and celebrated innovation within the industry with its Awards for Design & Innovation. With his unique ability to offer an informed, wide-angle view, IABM Director General Peter White was also a familiar face on IBC TV as well as a voice in the IBC Daily.

"The State of the Media Industry — Are We Over the Worst?"
In a keynote speech during the IBC session the "The State of the Media Industry — Are We Over the Worst?", IABM Director General Peter White told listeners that the association's research indicates the state of the media industry is improving as are prospects for the future. White's early morning remarks to a near-capacity audience were based on research conducted by IABM. "After the doldrums, things are slowly building, particularly in Europe," White said. "In fact, the mood is quite optimistic, buttressed by improving financials."

IABM Awards and Reception
On Sept. 11, the IABM presented its Peter Wayne Award for the most innovative product making a significant contribution to the broadcast and media industry to the Mode-AL Speed Rack. Chosen by an international judging panel that included experts from the full spectrum of broadcast activity, the Mode-AL Speed Rack is a quick-build alternative to traditional 19-inch racking that needs no outboard tools or hardware. The company accepted the award at an IBC reception attended by more than 200 people. Giving the award, Judging Panel Chair Martin Salter noted that Speed Rack was distinguished for showing "truly innovative understanding of a need, and an equally innovative and elegantly simple solution."

Awards for Excellence went to the Dolby® PRM-4200, a professional reference monitor that allows cinema color grading without a digital cinema projector; Gekko kleer colour®, a multichip array that enables LED technology to be employed to light film sets and studios; Integrated Microwave Technologies' RF Central™ microLITE HD, an MPEG-4-based full HD digital COFDM ultra-miniature transmitter; and the Sony® MPE-200, an image processor for analysis, control, and manipulation of 3D scenes in real time.

Industry Guide
The new IABM Industry Guide was launched at IBC2010 and incorporated popular changes, including a glossary of industry terms (based on the well-known Quantel Fact Book) to afford users a handy reference as needed. The new edition also contains a selection of articles and case studies written specifically for it by a wide range of commentators.
