New Radio-Assist Module Debuts at NAB; Enables Low-Cost Switching and Production of Richer Video and Audio Content for Web Streaming and Podcasts
CLARET, France — March 16, 2010 — NETIA today announced the release of CamDirector, a new module that brings direct camera control and automated video switching to the company's Radio-Assist™ 8 suite of digital audio automation software. CamDirector will be shown for the first time at the 2010 NAB Show. Using automatic voice detection, CamDirector enables complete automation of the production of in-studio interviews, shows, or any special on-set event by triggering the switching of cameras according to the speaker and mic currently in use. The CamDirector allows radio broadcasters to create live feeds or recorded programs for easy repurposing and delivery to multiple platforms including traditional broadcast, streaming, podcast, and mobile platforms.
"Radio listeners — and younger audiences, in particular — increasingly demand the ability to 'visualize' what's going on in a studio while a program or special interview is on air," said Christophe Carniel, CEO and president at NETIA. "CamDirector provides greater sophistication than a single still camera without the investment and resources typically required for more complex multicamera program recording. With this simple, cost-effective means of creating video content that complements their on-air offerings, broadcasters can easily expand the type and quality of content they offer to today's media consumers."
The automation of switching processes through NETIA's Radio-Assist 8 software suite enables radio broadcasters to maximize the value of interviews and other events for distribution to multiple platforms, while minimizing the associated burden on station staff.
CamDirector operates within existing installed Radio-Assist automation systems and does not require an additional dedicated IT infrastructure, database, or server.
The CamDirector module allows cameras installed in a radio facility to be controlled directly from NETIA's Radio-Assist 8. Positioned to capture each speaker participating in the program, individual cameras within the studio are triggered by CamDirector as associated voice-activated microphones pick up speakers' voices. When a host or guest begins to speak, the software automatically switches the feed to that person's mic and camera.
Flexible configuration options within CamDirector are complemented by a variety of preset parameters. To give the production a more authentic look and a dynamic feel, users can take advantage of a built-in scene-creation program that lends even greater fluidity and interest to the video and dialog. For example, the program can be set so that after two minutes, a particular camera will zoom out to a wider angle, or zoom in. These tools give the broadcaster a variety of choices in defining how cameras and mics are used to create video pieces.
The Radio-Assist 8 range of digital audio automation software is equipped with a broad range of tools for end-to-end multimedia workflows. This acclaimed software suite extends beyond traditional broadcasting by streamlining the preparation and publication of media, as well as the management of associated metadata and linked media. Radio-Assist 8 gives instant access to all types of media, archived or online. Regardless of the storage medium, items can be previewed and restored for repurposing and distribution, both for broadcasting and for multi-platform distribution. By interfacing with NETIA's Media Asset Management system, Radio-Assist 8 also responds efficiently to the needs of media groups having to manage and share video, audio, images, and text throughout their entities.
