PostWorks crea su Pablo una delle prime pubblicità in 3D per ESPN

Importante casa di post di New York entra nell'era del 3DTV con Quantel.
Newbury, UK, July 2010: PostWorks, the leading New York full service post production house, has put its Quantel Pablo and Genetic Engineering systems through their paces on the one of the USA's first 3D television commercials for ESPN.

The :30 spot, which promotes ESPN's own Sportscenter program, is running throughout ESPN's live Stereo3D coverage of the soccer World Cup.

PostWorks, whose finishing credits include both studio and independent film projects, national commercials, as well as television programs for NBC, HBO, Discovery, National Geographic, and FX, to name a few, found new challenges to be met with this particular job.

"The spot was shot and posted in just 10 days - a really tight schedule for such an ambitious project," reports Corey Stewart, PostWorks Chief Engineer. "We have considerable experience in 3D, with work on several 3D feature films under our belt, but of course not in TV commercials because this is a brand new area for everyone! ESPN's ad agency Wieden and Kennedy called us in on the project, which was shot in one day by Pace on the Sportscenter set in Los Angeles. The offline was then carried out by Wieden and Kennedy's own editors on-site at PostWorks. From there we moved straight into the Pablo.

"The UV lighting and polarising effects of the LCD panels used on the Sportscenter set made it impossible to get both eyes to match at the shoot stage," Stewart continues. "That meant considerable matching work was required in post together with the usual color correction and 3D vergence work. We also composited the VFX and did the 3D titling too. The Pablo's 3D toolset is tremendous, and the fact that it's totally integrated with all the color, effects, titling and compositing tools makes for a really efficient Stereo3D workflow, and helped us to deliver a great looking piece for ESPN in an incredibly tight timescale."

Adding an extra twist to the story, ESPN's Sportscenter program is also produced using Quantel equipment - the world's largest HD installation based on the Quantel Enterprise sQ server based production technology.
