SEATTLE — March 2, 2010 — Streambox today announced a hybrid HD-SD version of the award-winning Streambox® ACT-L3™ Software Encoder, the first of its kind to provide high-quality HD video streaming over low data rate IP connections. Initially available for Apple® Mac OS® X platforms, the solution enables broadcasters, government agencies, and enterprises to transmit live or stored 720p/1080i, as well as SD video, with powerful new capabilities, such as cellular 3G/4G bonding, that maximize network bandwidth for the highest possible HD video quality.

Based on the award-winning ACT-L3™ codec, the Streambox Hybrid HD-SD Software Encoder features integrations with SDI video capture devices such as Matrox's MXO2, AJA, and Black Magic to capture SDI video streaming for higher picture quality. Armed with only a Mac laptop running the Streambox encoder, a camera, and the portable SDI device, mobile reporters can gather, edit, and stream live, high-quality HD-SDI video from remote locations over low data rate connections such as 3G/4G, WiFi, VSAT, and other IP networks. Exclusive to the new encoder is its multiplexing capabilities, which enable the system to accommodate dual BGAN terminals, T1 lines, and 3G/4G air cards for increased bandwidth. This includes support for mobile 3G/4G bonding, which enables clients to bond two air cards for wireless IP access — effectively increasing the available bandwidth for streaming broadcast-quality HD video in 720p or 1080i format.
