“Broadcast Solutions” is the Italian system integrator based in Aquila and double subsidiaries in Rome and Milan specialized in designing, programming and setting up ob-vans and radio-tv facilities with a particular view to integration. Around the end of 2011 they organized a couple of events dedicated to their typical clients, within the broadcast sectors to show the innovative solutions of some of their distributed brands. Among them Riedel and Lawo Consoles and others.
These events are strictly connected to the sports world of Formula 1, since in such occasions a couple of special setup OB-Vans are used; one was here in Italy for the event.
The owner of the company, Luca Sciotti and a couple of trusted managers, Cesare Colaiuta (Rome) and Marco Camplolonghi (Cologno Monzese, Milan) leaded the event in strict cooperation with Riedel Communications and Lawo.
In every Formula 1 grand prix there is a host broadcaster who manages the event for tv shooting and control of communications. Riedel is the heart of intercom communications and two aerials manage all wireless messages, plus the in circuit surveillance cameras, the safety car communications and all the rest from the racing cars to boxes, including the direction panel of the race.
Every racing stable has its own Riedel rack where all intercoms are connected and a dedicated line
works from the boxes to the racing cars and vice-versa.
Such typical race communications are of several kind, incredibly many, including voice, data comm, telemetry and all managed by Riedel systems and are a very important part of the race itself and also for the future developments of technical aspects of the racing cars.
So all datas are sent to boxes for the actual racing strategy and also at the same time to each car manufactory headquarters. Actually Riedel has developed over the last two years a special dedicated service which no longer uses the satellite links but implements brand new fibre optic links for their total reliability. After this success, such links are now available all over the world wherever a Formula1 event is taking place.
Starting over from this fiber link service Riedel has also developed, together with some partners, some proprietor backbones, managing hubs for such networks in order to be in a position to supply this “RELINK” service also to broadcasters in general. Actually they always need a bi-directional service up to or even better to satellite links for rather long periods of time and practically in many parts of the world. The typical event in which such new link technology could be very useful is the forthcoming London Olympic Games where every broadcaster will find it particularly practical and tailored over costs and time, with dedicated ethernet interface ports available for high quality audio and video delivery to cover all disciplines.
Back to the demo event organized by Broadcast Solutions it was also focalized the importance of Dolby Digital+ coding as a standard for the new HD channels broadcast by satellite and on DVB-T.
Besides, MC2 Lawo consoles which are very diffused also in sports broadcasting, have now been updated to a new measuring loudness system placed on every single channel strip, instead just one on the final master mix.
