Mario Sconcerti (Florence, 24th October 1948), is a well known Italian writer and journalist, commentator on the sports pages of the daily newspaper Corriere della Sera, and also participating as the main commentator for the transmission of SKY Italy "Third time - on the air with us."
In the past years he has taken part in the program "Sky football show ", the Sundays SKY Italy sports broad range transmission by Sky Sports.
For him a special service was developed based on a Eutelsat NewSpotter solution allowing to go on the air directly from his home in order to comment live on the mentioned sports broadcasts.
The system was assembled by M3Satcom, an Italian company that is based on three key partners, Eutelsat's satellite distribution, Interute for distribution via fiber optics and Thomson for the part relating to all devices useful for integration.
M3 Satcom, with a very broad a customer base, offers several important partners in its business consortium, other Italian companies such as Elber, Telsat, DGQoS, VidyoCast, Onetastic, covering all sectors and the technical requirements of the broadcast industry.
NewSpotter is the service made possible by the integration of three lines of business, the teleport, the system integration and the outside broadcast: in fact M3Satcom has invested over the years in technical structures with two teleports, one in Milan and one in Rome, interconnected via two-way fiber through Interoute; the 2 teleports are manageable as if they were a single location. The teleport is responsible for the services of DTH on 28° East, and especially in the 9th slot at 13°, Hotbird, with a transponder operated by Milan with automatic redundancy from Rome, so as to cancel out almost all possible issues. On the 13 degrees slot - also – are managed all tv signals, the radio, communications, business TV and in store radio.
Contribution and DTT important tasks are handled through the 9° with multiplex by Elemedia and 12° West used also by Europa7 (channel which also transmits the Italian soccer Serie B in T2) and DAB. There are occasional bandwidth services with a 24H web booking for bandwidth reservation.
The service section is based on 7 Outside broadcast mobile media in HD, while the business unit of system integration mailny rely on Thomson for the headend, and complete solutions for the design and supply of turnkey systems.
NewSpotter by Eutelsat is the service based on a mobile vehicle that allows to convey the information packets delivering them via optical fiber, setting up a connection between the various most important broadcasters, to convey the events from the original venue directly to the broadcaster studio.
SKY Italy had requested M3Satcom a transmission system that would help to convey all interventions that Dr. Mario Sconcerti usually makes from his living room in SKY Sports programs (for example, commenting on the Champions League). This service has been realized based on NewSpotter and creating a flight case that allows internally to manage all the transmission signals and the return info. A motorized camera allows the journalist from his home to go on air in an almost completely automatic way, without any intervention from the main control room in remote sports broadcaster headquarter.
In practice, thanks to a simple sequence of switches Mr Sconcerti can turn on the lights of his "home set", open up the microphone when he needs it, turn the encoder for transmission, and at the same time the Ka-sat modem. So, automatically, the journalist from all the comforts of his house is live connected with the M3Satcom teleport and with SKY headquarter and he is immediately able to carry out the transmission and comments. The result, very practical, is of absolute quality and allows to greatly reduce travel time and handle all comments interventions at ease.
