Globecast OB-Van: Pro Show engineering, mechanical construction by Tomassini Style

The increasingly tight budgets of local television productions today are forcing service providers to invent and propose broadcasters increasingly agile and light shooting vehicles, but above all economic. The national broadcaster usually has an internal department which can produce mobile vehicles or upgrade existing ones to make them always adequate. The medium and small broadcasters -instead- must once again lean outside. The small size mobile production van usually is based on the work of three cameras arriving sometimes at six; and is easy to foresee that such shooting means will become more and more ubiquitous, also considering that for large events the remote production is advancing.

Companies that create mobile vehicles for third parties are not many in Italy, and among them the Professional Show (Pro Show) has just released a vehicle on Volkswagen mechanics equipped for shooting up to 6 cameras (the wiring is for six). One of the characteristics that a vehicle of this type must possess is flexibility and that coincides with reliability. Given the increasingly limited space on board, everything has to be in the right place, given the typical difficulties that such a job entails and the associated stress. Here for example, they can work simultaneously up to eight people and the customer, Globecast, given the specialization in live satellite links, wanted all the functions for shooting, editing and transmission to be integrated in a single vehicle.
The watchword of such a choice is unique, that is "optimization" as a means of this kind is self-sufficient and therefore in line with broadcast market demands.
The efficiency in cost and production functions becomes a must for those who want to offer a complete turnkey service.
And so here's a mobile vehicle of just seven meters made in collaboration between two major companies which, moreover, is ready to future adjustments in the wake of new technologies.
The vehicle is equipped with Sony HSC-100 cameras, with 2/3" shooting sensors.
Another company that is heard often appoint at the stands on mobile media is the Tomassini Style that here took care of the bodywork arrangements, installations of double-conditioning and electric. The conditioning in these modes is crucial and here two parallel systems have been set up one for the comfort of personnel and one for the heat generated by the production apparatuses.
Fabio Veggiato Head of Sales EMEA / Eastern Europe Key Customer-Pro Show describes the half Globecast vehicle secrets: "Another point that a modern mobile vehicle has to deliver is the possibility of being reconfigured according to different needs, in case of adoption of new technologies. And here we are right in this case where the precise arrangement of the on-board equipments and even personal presence with dual functions (eg those working on audio also controls the satellite uplink) are essential. The possibility of future upgrades to 4K is also another advantage to be considered. The work areas are sectioned, ie the audio production area is separated and isolated from the video zone.
It is a medium sized vehicle but of great expectations, on board transports For-A 6ME equipment for what concerns the video mixer that accepts SD / HD inputs, 2.5D and 3D transition effects, DVE keys with chroma key, DSK, still store, picture in picture and multi-viewer, the FA9520 matrix dual 3G-SDI / HD-SDI / SD-SDI channel, fatten Analog Composite, audio Digital / Analogue, frame synchronizer but also cross conversion up / down, auto-complete color correction, and also outputs Dolby E encoder and Dolby E decoder. The Italian BLT was chosen for devices dedicated to the slow-motion, with a BLT server with 4 HD channels.
QL5 Yamaha audio mixer with 32 faders + 2 for 64 inputs on 16 outputs, matrix, and more.
RTS Intercom with new KP5032 panels and KP3016A and matrix ZEUS-III, and UHF radio BTR700 apparatuses.
Registration is entrusted to Sony XDCAM PDW-HD1500. Station reporter connected with Glensound Dante "Inferno", connected to the medium with a fiber cable.
Up-Link-based encoder AVP2000 Ericsson, Ericsson IRD, booster Xicom XTD 400K, modulators and up-converters Newtec AZ110."
