The Sports Video Group was formed in 2006 to support the professional community that relies on video, audio, and broadband technologies to produce and distribute sports content. Leagues, owners, teams, players, broadcasters, webcasters, and consumer technology providers have joined the SVG to learn from each other, turn vision into reality, implement new innovations, while sharing experiences that will lead to advancements in the sports production/distribution process and the overall consumer sports experience.

High Dynamic Range 4K UHD gets full test run at the Alpine Ski World Cup in Italy

At the mid-December FIS Alpine Ski World Cup events in Val Gardena and Alta Badia, the International Ski Federation along with producer Infront and OB provider Global Production tested 4K UHD with the HLG BT2020 HDR colour space.

The signal produced in Italy was not distributed in UHD HDR but its conversion to HD SDR went to all the world's largest broadcasters and the event was designed as a real-world test to get ready for a forthcoming 4K TV airing.

Italian broadcaster Mediaset hosted, at the end of September and in its Camana hall of the TV Production Center, the 10th edition of the SMPTE "Emerging Technology" Seminar.
The SMPTE, as well as being a regulatory body, is the association that deals with training for the dissemination of the technical culture of the media and it is in this context that fully inserted this Seminar with the aim of examining the continuous technological evolution of the broadcast and new media industry, in particular "broadband" telecommunications.
